Oddi prints BOMB Magazine
Oddi Prints BOMB Magazine Oddi Printing has delivered the second issue we print of Bomb Magazine - issue nr 118. It´s been a great pleasure for us to add Bomb Magazine (www.bombsite.com) to the growing number of high quality magazines we print for the US market. Bomb is a quarterly that for 31 years has been publishing conversations between artists, writers, actors, directors, musicians, and architects. Launched because its early editors-all practicing artists and writers-saw a disparity between how their work was being discussed by critics and how they discussed it among themselves, BOMB interviews focus on the creative process and the ideas artists generate through dialogue.

Bomb is printed on UPM Finesse paper with the literary section First Proof printed on Cyclus Offset - all in 4 color. Cover stock for the last two issues has been 200 gr Munken Polar and the magazine is now perfect bound. As well as printing and binding Oddi Printing has handled drop shipping to distributors all over the US and Canada as well as bulk shipments to a mailing house.

The Jewlery and Metalwork of Marie Zimmermann
Oddi Printing - The Jewlery and Metalwork of Marie ZimmermannOddi Printing recently delivered a book jointly published by American Decorative Art 1900 Foundation and Yale University Press about the life and art of Marie Zimmerman. The book gathers for the first time the story of Zimmermann's life and work and puts a spotlight on one of the most singular makers of metalwork active in early-20th-century America. Essays by leading scholars in the decorative arts offer extensive new research on Zimmermann and her work, while more than 500 gorgeous full-color images show the breadth and novelty of her design practice.

As so many of the books printed by Oddi Printing the biggest challenge in the printing of this book was to achieve a quality of four color printing that would correctly depict the beautiful art; the jewlery and metalwork. By going four rounds of proofs and with close co-operation between Oddi´s pre-press department and the publisher the final results is a book with stunning photographs. We at Oddi Printing are proud to have been a part of making this stunning book.

Oddi Printing and McSweeney’s
Oddi Printing - McSweeney´sRecently Chronicle Books published a book called Art of McSweeney’s celebrating as described “the 11th or 12th anniversary” of the independent publisher, showcasing their award winning art and book design across all their activities.

Oddi Printing is particularly proud to have been a part of McSweeney’s history being the printer which printed many of the McSweeeney’s Quarterly issues to date. In the book Dave Eggers tells the story about how coincidence led him to a printer based in Reykjavik, Iceland in which illusion and lack there of play’s a very interesting role.

The book offers insight into McSweeneys creative process and tells vividly how Oddi Printing often played an important role in design decisions based on materials and processes in printing and binding. The narratives of practical solutions, to often very demanding designs, offer book designers, publishers, authors and book enthusiasts thought provoking ideas where design and production comes together to make very interesting and unusual books.

How Oddi Printing and McSweeney’s have collaborated on design and production is something of an example on how it’s possible to do extraordinary things where content, design and production come together in a great way, of course to the greatest advantage of the reader.

Oddi Printing has offices in New York and Pennsylvania and samples of McSweeney’s books as well as other interesting printing and binding work can be found under "Portfolio"

Icelandic green printing company opens in New York
Oddi PrintingIcelandic printing company Oddi has opened up a new office in New York in order to cope with the demand for its green, eco-friendly printing across the East Coast of the U.S.

Oddi Printing has been serving its clients in the U.S. for around 20 years from its office in Pennsylvania, but due to the increasing demand for its quality services and its awareness of environmental issues, Oddi has opened up a second office located in New York with the intention of serving clients across the US and the East Coast.

Heading the New York office is Marteinn Jonasson, a long time veteran of the publishing and printing industry in Iceland.

Oddi Printing certified with the Nordic Ecolabel
The Nordic EcolabelAt the beginning of the year Icelands Environmental Minister handed Mr. Jon Omar Erlingsson, Oddi Printing CEO the certification from the Nordic Ecolabel at the printing plant in Reykjavik. It was a festive occation marking the end of a 12 month process in which Oddi´s employees and managers mapped out all the different environmental practices already in place at the plant as well as upgrading others.

Beeing gentle to the environment is however not a new thing for Oddi Printing as it´s been an ongoing process for decades and the plant has been awarded number of awards for it´s sound environmental practices. To name just a few the plant was awarded Reykjavik Environmental award in 1997 and the Ministry of the Environment Award in 2004.

For Oddi Printing´s customer knowing that the printing plant is certified by the Nordic Ecolabel is very important as they now know that there are few, if any printing plants operating on this level of environmental consciousness. Pending the customers wishes the Nordic Ecolabel logo - the Swan - can now be placed on all books, catalogues, magazines and other printed material from Oddi Printing´s plant in Reykjavik, Iceland.
